When you don't 'feel' God

Dear Laju,

I know I love God but I never feel his presence, hear him and I have never had any supernatural experience.  What do I do?

I guess you could say that I don’t always feel married. One of the things I do when I get into the house is take off my wedding ring (I’ve never forgotten to wear it though). Sometimes the hubby travels and I’m home alone.  But regardless of my feelings at those times, I am married-to the best man in the world, I might add!

You must realize that God’s love for you is greater than your feelings. What you must do is move your feelings in the direction of knowledge rather than let your knowledge go in the direction of your feelings.

1 Jn 3: 20-23 (New Living Translation)
Even if we feel guilty, God is greater than our feelings, and He knows everything.
Dear friends, if we don’t feel guilty, we can come to God with bold confidence.
And we will receive from Him whatever we ask because we obey Him and do the things that please Him.
And this is His commandment: We must believe in the name of His Son, Jesus Christ, and love one another, just as He commanded us.

As long as you believe in Jesus, you have nothing to fear.

You must preach the gospel to yourself constantly so that you can be firmly established in the truth.

2Pe_1:19  says:
And so we have the prophetic word confirmed, which you do well to heed as a light that shines in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts;

Meditate and confess daily:

God chose me in Christ Jesus to be Holy and without blame before Him in love.
I am his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works.
I am the temple of God. He lives on my inside. I have fellowship with the father.

On ‘Supernatural experiences’ I will say this: The most potent way to discern the son of God is through the word of God. See what Paul says in 1 Cor 15: 3,4

“For I delivered to you as of first importance what I also received, that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, and that He was buried, and that He was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures”

See how insistent Paul was on going “according to scriptures.” This is because sometimes a man of God may do things contrary to the word of God, but because he has supernatural signs, people will choose him above the word. This ought not to be.

Supernatural experiences should be the testimony of every believer, but they must be founded on the word. The Holy Spirit on your inside empowers you to walk in the supernatural.

This also requires knowledge, so study and find out God’s word about the ministry of the Holy Spirit on your inside. To learn more, you can listen to Personal Paraklet and other messages by Pst. Emmanuel Iren here.

The Holy Spirit has a ministry in you and through you. But his ministry through you will only show off when you step out in faith. You don’t have to wait to receive an alert, just like you do on your phone when someone credits your account. Be involved in the work of the ministry, jump at opportunities to help others in the name of Jesus.

You can pray for the sick and cast out demons because you have the Holy Spirit on your inside.
Supernatural experiences are for the work of the ministry. That’s something every Christian is called to do.

On hearing God

If you want to hear God, read your bible out loud. Study the word and do what it says. Trust in God’s ability to communicate with you. He lives on your inside. God communicated with a donkey to a stubborn man, with a handwriting on the wall to a heathen king, with a burning bush that wasn’t burnt to a stammering man. So if he wants to tell you something, you will hear well.

There is an intimacy in your relationship with God that goes beyond drama to hear God speak.

Heb 12:18-24 (NLT)

Unlike your ancestors, you didn’t come to Mount Sinai–all that volcanic blaze and earthshaking rumble–
to hear God speak. The earsplitting words and soul-shaking message terrified them and they begged him to stop.
When they heard the words–“If an animal touches the Mountain, it’s as good as dead”–they were afraid to move.
   Even Moses was terrified.
No, that’s not your experience at all. You’ve come to Mount Zion, the city where the living God resides. The invisible Jerusalem is populated by throngs of festive angels
and Christian citizens. It is the city where God is Judge, with judgments that make us just.
You’ve come to Jesus, who presents us with a new covenant, a fresh charter from God. He is the Mediator of this covenant. The murder of Jesus, unlike Abel’s–a homicide that cried out for vengeance–became a proclamation of grace.

God doesn’t have to speak to you in a dramatic way, He needed to do that with the Israelites because they did not have the Holy Spirit on their inside. They needed much drama to be convinced. But there is an intimacy that the man in Christ has. This doesn’t mean that God cannot choose to communicate with you through visions, but the primary way he leads you is by His spirit on your inside which is always in line with his word. I live in the same house with my husband, when he wants to communicate with me, he doesn’t have to go to a TV station to do so. He can just whisper and I’ll hear him loud and clear.
